The BookSpot is owned and operated by two avid readers and book lovers, Sigrún (from Iceland) and Ahmed (from Egypt), whose goal has always been to serve fellow book lovers in Egypt by providing a unique selection of books for all ages and in all genres.

The BookSpot first opened its doors on September 7, 2004, in Maadi, Cairo. We sold only used books at that time, aiming both to provide affordable books and to keep books in circulation in Egypt. We have grown and changed a lot since these early days and now offer a large selection of both new and used books in English, as well as a small selection of Arabic children’s books and used books in Arabic. In addition to the shop in Maadi, we also have an online store, deliver all over Egypt, and participate in different kinds of events, such as school book fairs and other bazaars.

In order to provide a unique and diverse selection of books, we import new books from both the UK and the US. We also further serve the community of book lovers in Egypt by providing the books that you need through our special order service. We can provide you with any title in print in the US or UK. If you are looking for specific titles you haven’t been able to find elsewhere, just fill in the special order form or contact us to get information about availability and price.

In December 2021, a new chapter started when The BookSpot moved across the street from its original location to a new shop on the first floor in building 70 on Road 9 in Maadi. At the end of 2026, we launched a new and improved website, offering even better online services for book lovers throughout Egypt.
